[Council to Maryland Deputies.]
To the Deputies of Maryland in Congress
11th Feby. 1776
Gentn
The Convention in Consequence of the Desire of the Con-
gress had ordered three Companies of their Minute-Men to
march to the Assistance of the Counties of Accomack and
Northampton in Virginia. Two of them are already, as we
hear, at their Stations, and you will see by the inclosed the
Reason why the other is prevented from complying with the
Order of the Convention. We would, were it in our Power,
[without rendering this city and Baltimore Town entirely
defenceless] with great readiness spare the Arms wanted.
Since the Rising of the Convention 'till Friday last we have
not heard from the Eastern Shore, the Communication having
been cut off by the Frost. We send you the Letters that you
may know the State of the affair and if necessary apprize the
Congress of it.
[Pendleton to Council.]
Wmsburg Feb. 10th 1776.
Genl We think it our indispensible duty to inform you
that a 50 gun man of war is just arrived & lying with the King
Fisher & several Tenders off old Fort Point below Hampton
what ship or from whence she came, we have not yet discov-
ered we are with great regard.
