[Dinwiddie to Sharpe.]
Williamsburg Augt 5th 1757
Sir
I send this by Express to acquaint You that Capt Arburth-
nott of His Majesty's Ship Garland, is to convoy the Trade
from this to Britain, & desires they may join him in Hampton
Road the 15th of Septr that Day he proposes to sail; I thot it
wou'd be of Service to the Trade of Your Colony to be
acquainted therewith, not doubting they will be glad of Con-
voy, which will be a great Saving to the Owners & Freighters,
as I hear Insurance is at 25 p Ct to drawback 15 p Ct if they
sail with Convoy.
I propose laying an Embargo on all Ships loaded with
Tobacco till the above Time of his sailing, which I think both
necessary & proper.
Pray write me any News You may have from the Nowd
I am in Pain to hear of the Junction of the Forces from Britain
with those Ld Loudoun carried from New York & if they pro-
ceeded on the Grand Expedition against Canada, I fear the
Season is too far advanc'd, however if any Probability of Suc-
cess he certainly will put it in execution.
