tell the Indians that they must make haste and kill the protes-
tants before the shipps come in To appease therefore those
differences that these Reports may raise wee doe declare that
wee went in Company with Coll Pye to Zachiah fort to the
intent to search the original of these reports and the Emperor
having thereupon called his greate men together the Em-
perour and the great men did in the hearing of us declare
that Coll Darnall Coll Pye and Majr Boareman had never any
Conference with the Indians of or concerning the discourse
aforementioned And that the Emperour and the greate men
should say that the Indian named Wawoostough that is
reported should speak these words to Mr Burr Harris is a
runnaway from them and an Idle person In Testimony
whereof wee have hereunto set our hands the 28th day of March

Whereas severall reports hath of late beene raised by some
persons against the quiet and peaceable Governmt of this
province and especially against the honble Edward Pye that the
said Coll Edward Pye should absent himselfe from his house
for these three weekes last past in order to procure Indians to
molest and trouble the good people of this province and that
the said Coll Edward Pye should for that end and intent send
away the County Armes. To appease therefore these jealosies
amongst us and to prevent such disturbances as these reports
may raise wee whose names are hereunto subscribed doe
declare that by our certain knowledge the said Coll Edward
Pye hath not for these three weekes last past absented himself
for above three dayes in the said time afore mentioned from
his house at portobacco and that for that time some of us who
are subscribers were present with the said Coll Edward Pye
(his affaires causing his absence from his owne house) And
