Fitzhugh as well as Collo Digges who as his Excellency

Observes we also find only taken notice of that Mr Vansweer-
ingen has passed his publick tryal at our provincial Court &
confessed all the matter of Fact brought against him according
to his Deposition

Produced & Ordered to be read a Letter from Collo Henry
Jowles to Sir Thomas Lawrence read accordingly & the
further consideration thereof referred till next Council day at
which time Collo Iowles ordered to attend here

To his Excellency the Captain General of Maryland & the
rest of their Majestys most honourable Council
The humble petition of their Majestys Iustices
of Ann Arundel County
humbly sheweth
That whereas Sir Thomas Lawrence hath appointed one Mr
Briscoe for our Clerk whom we find very uncapable & Unfit
for the same & having seriously considered that both the
Credit of the Court & security of the County lyes in an able
Clerk therefore as we have in our former petitions to your
Honours so now again we recommend Henry Bonner of
whom we have had Sufficient experience to be very capable &
fit for the same and humbly crave that he may be Constituted
Clerk of our County
And we shall as in duty Bound pray &c

It being remembred and considered that Being imposed
upon by having Persons unfit & uncapable preferred to be
Clerks of Courts of Iudicature is one of the Grievances of the
Countrey & Charge against Sir Thomas Lawrence already
represented to their Majestys to which this Board expect an
answer they think fit to refer the Consideration of the fore-
going Petition until such time as their Majestys Pleasure may
be known

& Governor in chief in & over their Majestys Province
of Maryland & the Territorys thereunto belonging &ca
& other the honble Gent of the Council
