the sight of those Indians in their Cabins at the Head of the
Bay did Certainly there see this Casteenes Wife among them
and severall other Indians which he knew to be of that Gang,
This with the ill News lately rec'd from Pensilvania of the
Mohoakes our Friends being lately Routed & put to Flight
by the Cannida Indians and French with their designs to
attempt upon Albany and make inroad upon these parts about
this time seems to Portend ill Consequence and hath put me
upon a Necessity of Consulting the Councill what measures to
take to prev' the Impending Dangers threatning us what at
present they have Concluded on is the endeavouring by fair
means to perswade & Invite this Frenchman with some of the
great men of those Indians to Come and disclose themselves
and their designs of Coming among us, and if Friends they
appear to Enter into a League of Peace and Amity, with us
and all their Majestys Subjects in these Parts of America but

if they shall Refuse to Come or being Come it shall appear
that the Frenchman is this Monr Casteene or those Indians
Friends to Cannida or otherwise our Enemies then to seize
and take by Force the said Frenchman and to have our
Forces in those Parts in a Readiness at an hours warning to
oppose all hostile attempts from those or any other Indians
and to pursue them if Occasion we have also appointed the
erecting of Three forts along the Frontiers of the Province in
the most Convenient places and at such equal distances as
may be most proper for discovery and daily communication
with each other to be manned with Part Indians and part
English to keep continually ranging between one another
this is all at Present thought necessary to be done in this
Emergency, of any thing further of moment should happen
shall not omit advising if any thing if import present from
your Government please to Communicate the same to
