Greenberry for and on the behalf of one Iames Smith of Ann
Arundell County who had been lately convicted and Fined by
the Iustices of the said County Court the sum or quantity of
five thousd Pounds of Tobacco for having ignorantly and inno-
cently harboured and entertained at his house a Servant of
Iohn Selmans of the aforesaid County and having paid the
Moiety thereof to the said Iohn Selman according to Law
humbly prays the Remission of the other Moiety the Remdr of
the said Fine and it is granted according to the foll order vizt

By his Excellency the Govr and the honble Councill
Decr 23d 1692
Maryland ss
Ordered that the remaining Part of the Fine assessed by
the Commissioners of Ann Arundell County Court upon
Iames Smith for Entertaining of a Servant belonging to Iohn
Sellman of Ann Arundell County contrary to Law be and the
same is hereby remitted

Council.

Upon reading the Petition of Mr Thomas Lawrence Bart
Secretary of the Province of Mariland in America complaining
of the proceedings of the Governor and Generall Assembly of
that Province, touching the lessening the Fees of his Office of
Secretary, and praying to be permitted quietly to enjoy what
former Secretaries there alwayshad, and the benefitt of the Naval
Officer, or Licencer of the Ordinarys there, as in the Petition
annexed is more att large sett forth. It is this day ordered by
His Majesty in Councill that it be and it is hereby referred to
the Right honble the Lords of the Committee of Trade and
Plantations, to examine the matter of the said Petition, and to
report to this Board what their Ldpps conceive fitt for His
Majesty to do therein.
