will take that Oath and give noe advantage to your enemies
in that or any other like respect I hear Coll Diggs (my
Countryman) is coming to wait upon yr Excelly and before I
saw your Gent, from you I intended to get a passage with him
and since would have leave presently but we have a Tryall of
a Scotch Vessel seized by the Ll Govr himself and he would
have me present to examine the Coquets I long to be at St
Maries though I shall make very little stay in regard I am
directed to make my survey here first I know there is a great
deal to doe in your parts, especially in the Eastern Country
adjoyning to Newcastle I desire your Excelly to proceed
quietly till you can have a fair blow att them I hear there
are some officers who have not done their dutys I referr
your Excelly to severall letters which Mr Harpin brings Lt
Governor Nicholson is very zealous for their Majties interest
I will not detain your Excelly reserving very much to discourse
when I have an opportunity to wait upon you in Maryland
with my hearty good wishes for yr Excelly prosperity and
happiness in your Governmt

Articles of Peace and Amity concluded and agreed upon
between the Honble Lyonel Copley Esqre Capt Genll and Gov-
ernor in Chief in and over this their Majesties Province and
Territory of Maryland and Ochotomaquath Emperor of Pis-
cattaway this 14th day of May in the year of our Lord 1692.
Imprs It is agreed upon that from this day forward there be
an inviolable Peace and Amity between their sacred Majestys
King William and Queen Mary and their Subjects the Inhab-
itants of this Province and Virginia and the Emperor of Pis-
cattaway upon the Articles hereafter in this Treaty to be
agreed upon to the Worlds end to endure and that all former
Acts of Hostility and Damages by either party susteined be
buried in perpetuall Oblivion.
2dly That if any Indian Subject to the said Emperor shall
hereafter chance to kill an Englishman the said Emperor shall
be obliged to deliver the said Indian up to the Governor of
this Province as a Prisoner.
