Mathew Tennison of St. Maries County being sworne and
examined saith as follows That about the time of the first
alarm of the Northern Indians he was informed by the Indians
belonging to Chopticoe that they were forst away from their
touwnes of Chopticoe and Zakiah by the Great men here (being
the late Deputy Governors wherupon this deponent asked
them for what they were forced away and the said Indians
replyd that they were to fight for My Lord against Prot-
estants being persuaded by Coll: Darnall Coll: Pye and Major
Boreman promiseing them to furnish them with sloopes and
Boates for their passedge to the Eastern shoare Where upon
this deponent disuaded them from goeing telling them that
the Protestants was too numerous for them and that if they
went forward would kill them all upon which the said Indians
all with a free consent resolved not to proceed nevertheless
the Deputy Governors and particularly Coll: Darnall ordered
the Easterne Shoare Indians to carry the said Chopticoe and
Zakiah Indians with them and those that would not goe to
take their arms from them and further saith not.

To the Right Honble the Lord President and other the Lords
of His Majesty's most honble Privy Councill here present.
The humble Petition of Henry Darnall
of Maryland.
Sheweth,
That by order of the Right Honble the Lord President your
petitioner upon the accusation of Iohn Coode for words by
him alleadged to be spoken against his Majesty when Prince
of Orange by your Petitioner gave bond for his good behaviour
the which words are utterly denyed by your Petitioner and the
said Coode pretending noe other way to prove the same then
by a Paper he sayes was taken and sworn before himselfe
who was noe way quallified to take an Oath.
Your Petitioner humbly prayes your Lordships he may be
released of his Bayle the accusation against him being wholly
malicious and your Petitioner desireing speedily to return to
his family in the said Province
And shall pray etc.
