till & Justices of the Province of Maryland shall be removed
for the satisfaction of His Majesty.
That a Commission shall be forthwith sent to one Mr Henry
Cursey to be Deputy Governor a person of good repute and
credit and well esteemed by all the Inhabitants of Maryland
he being of the Church of England and a very ancient liver
and Inhabitant there, as most of the considerable dealers and
Traders to that Province can testifie.
That such other persons that are profest Protestants and
men of good repute, credit and Estate (as several of the
Traders and Dealers to Maryland can also testifie) shall be
nominated and impowered to be the Councill there, to whom
his Lordship prays the Kings Commands and Directions for
the full Examination of the truth of all such matters pretended
by John Coode and those other persons joyned with him to
be the cause of their taking up Arms and possessing them-
selves of the Government there.
That his Lordship does not desire (if His Majty forbid) the
prosecution or any way molesting the said Coode and his
adherents for any Act or thing done by them against the Gov-
ernmt his Lordship being willing to give good security and to
remain as a pledge here that His Majtys Commands and Orders
herein shall be most faithfully and punctually obeyed.
This his Lordship is fully assured will give all the satisfac-
tion the Inhabitants in general there can desire, and which his
Lordship is likewise certain all the Merchants, Traders and
Dealers for that Province will be very much satisfied with.

Sir,
I wondered when I recd: your letter this morning dated the
tenth instant but I found by the messenger that it was written
on Friday last, so that I perceive you have not received the
account of the proceeding of the Councill here concerning the
death of their Majties collector, Mr John Payne, upon the first
notice whereof I sent my warrant and secured John Wood-
cock and George Mason but George Mason was so danger-
ously wounded that it is yet doubtfull whether he will live or
no and my warrant is yett out for Will: Ayleworth and Brother
Will, and hope I shall suddenly have them in custody.
Their Majties Councill having mett at James City the 16th
ditto have ordered that no Collector shall cleare any European
