lived, and dealt to my Province this five and Twenty Years and
upwards called before this Committee of Plantations to declare

and testifie before their Lordships their knowledge touching
the charge in General against me contained in a declaration
lately sett forth and sent by Capt Jno Coode and his Adherents
now in Maryland.

From Mr Coode to Mr Bacon.
January 10th 1689.
Sr.
I writt to your Honours a Letter dated November the 16th
concerning our Popish Fugitives lately absconded and fled into
your Colony, by an Express who gives an Accot of your receipt
of the same, to which wee hoped and daily expected some sort
of answer but have not hitherto been soe happy to know the
pleasure or resolution of your Government in that Affair, since
which it hath happened that the said Sewall and Woodcock
(of which your Honours had notice in my former Letter) with
one Cecilius Butler, George Mason, Wm Ayleworth, George Jo.
Freeman and other Papists are in a hostile manner in a yacht
belonging to the said Sewall come from York River into this
Government, and have barbarously murdered Mr John Payne
his Majtys Collector for Pottupen and the Bay district, onely
coming on board and demanding the reason of the said
yachts going and coming from and to this Province without
due Entrys & cleareing. The said unfortunate Gentleman
