of Provision for the support of Goverm( being as presumed well
Satisfyed. The Act of 1704 was in Force & Effectual for that
Purpose.
I shall now conclude, my short Narrative of the Rise, Birth,
& being & Progress of the several Acts of Assembly, to the
Act of 1704, For the Support of his Majesty's Govr The
Right of the Act of 1704 is so undeniable Apparent with the
Crown & with Lord Baltimore as His Majesty's Hereditary
Govr of Maryland, Its Quality is unto a Diamond not to be
altered but by its own Power, wh it has not as yet reced There-
fore cannot want your Authenticity to the King & the Lord
Proprietor as an Act of the Province & By wh the Present
Support of the Govr is raised. Yr good sence will excuse My
freedom of Reasoning occasion'd by impartial Notice of things,
the Duty of My Office, & to put you on yr Guard agt Attempts
in prejudice to the Lord Proprietors Property & of the Support
of Govermt wishg you a Happy Iudgemt in all things.
My Lord wishes the Completion of the Govrs House, hopes
the Assembly will find means to finish their work, Espicially as
requisite Luster to the Province, when finished will not want
his valuable Gift. My Comissn as Provincial Secy impowers
Me with the Appointmt of the County Clerks. Having made
known to the Proprietor Mr Comissy Dulany's request on the
Death of Mr James Smith Clerk of Kent County prayg the
favour of his son Dennis Dulany in Succession to that Clerk-
ship, My Lord approvg I desire you'l Cause to be Entered a
Memdm in My Office as my order & Appointmt that Mr Dennis
Dulany be Comissd accordgly Clerk on Demise of Mr James
Smith The Revd Mr Harris in My Lords Instns gives me con-
cern his notorious Badness, said Fogery bringing him under his
Lordps high displeasure wh can't by him be retrived But by
recomdn to My Lord on his Behalf from the Body of the
Provincial Clergy. My Lord sends Mr Saml Chew his Compn
for his obliging Letr
On Conclusion, I've yr Packet By Capt Chew with yrs of the
Ist & 6th of Augt last. yr Request abt Mr Ridout, you may
depend of all Service in my power on vacancy & the Crown's
contg the Officer of Customs at Chester. His Lordp wod have
been well-pleased, had My Plan for Receipt of his Quit-Rents
been Completed. He thanks you for the Reduction in part 5
pr Ct & depends on yr Service of the remdr 5 pr Ct taken off
the Farmers two years hence, the Expiration of their Contracts,
& at wh time, he hopes the Sheriffs will be the Collectors of
that part of his Revenue, accordg to My Scheme delivered. He
desires Quick dispatch of his Rentals, will Esteem it Obliga-
tory, do not fail.
