from Wattkins point (being the North point of th^t bay into w^ch
the River Wighco form^rly called Wighcocomoco afterwards
Pocomoke & now Wighcocomoco againe doth fall exclusively)
to the Ocean on the East. Nantecoke river on the North & the
Sound of Chesipiake bay on the West into a County by the
name of Sommersett County in hono^r to our Deare Sister the
lady Mary Somersett & for the great trust & confidence we
have in your fidelityes Circumpeccons Providdnces and Wis-
domes have Constituted Ordeyned & appoynted & doe by
theis pnts constitute Ordeyne & appoint you Stephen Horsy
W^m Stevens W^m Thorne James Jones John Winder Henry
Boston, George Johnson & John White gent. Com^rs Jointly
& seu^rally to keepe the peace in Sommersett County afores^d &
to keepe & cause to be kept all laws & Ord^rs made for the
good & conservacon of the peace. & for the quiett rule &
gou^rm^t of the people in all & eu^ry the Articles of the same & to
chastice & punish all psons offending ag^t the forme of any
lawes & Ord^rs of this our pvince or any of th^m in Som^rsett
Co^nty afores^d as according to the forme of those lawes & Ord^rs
shall be fitt to be done Wee have alsoe Constituted & Ordeyned

be pnt) are alwaies to be one Com^rs to enquire by the Oath of
good & lawfull men of your County afores^d of all maner of
fellonies Whitchcrafts inchantm^ts Sorceryes Magick Arts Tres-
passes forestallings ingrossing & extorcons w^tsoeu^r & of all &
singler other Misdeeds & offences of w^ch Justices of the Peace
in England may or ought lawfully to enquire by whomesoeu^r
or whensoeu^r done or ppetrated or w^ch hereafter shall happen
to be done or ppetrated in the County afores^d ag^t the laws &
ord^rs of this o^r pvince Provided you pceed not in any of the
cases afores^d to take life or member but th^l in eu^ry such case
you send the prisoners w^th their Indictn^ts & the whole matter
depending before you to o^r Justices of o^r Pro^all Court next to be
holden of this our province whensoeu^r or wheresoever to be
holden there to be tryed, And further wee doe hereby authorize
you to yssue Writts, processe arrests & attachm^ts to hold Plea
of heare & determine and after Judgm^t execucon to award in all
causes Civill whether in accons reall or personall where the
thing in accon doth not exceed the value of Three thousand
pound weight of tobacco according to the lawes Orders &
reasonable Customes made & vsed in this o^r pvince of Mary-
land In w^ch causes Civill to be tryed we doe Constitute Ordeine

or either of you to be Judgess afores^d vnlesse some one of our
Councell be then in Co^rt And therefore we comand you th^t you
