from Wattkins point (being the North point of tht bay into wch
the River Wighco formrly called Wighcocomoco afterwards
Pocomoke & now Wighcocomoco againe doth fall exclusively)
to the Ocean on the East. Nantecoke river on the North & the
Sound of Chesipiake bay on the West into a County by the
name of Sommersett County in honor to our Deare Sister the
lady Mary Somersett & for the great trust & confidence we
have in your fidelityes Circumpeccons Providdnces and Wis-
domes have Constituted Ordeyned & appoynted & doe by
theis pnts constitute Ordeyne & appoint you Stephen Horsy
Wm Stevens Wm Thorne James Jones John Winder Henry
Boston, George Johnson & John White gent. Comrs Jointly
& seurally to keepe the peace in Sommersett County aforesd &
to keepe & cause to be kept all laws & Ordrs made for the
good & conservacon of the peace. & for the quiett rule &
gourmt of the people in all & eury the Articles of the same & to
chastice & punish all psons offending agt the forme of any
lawes & Ordrs of this our pvince or any of thm in Somrsett
Conty aforesd as according to the forme of those lawes & Ordrs
shall be fitt to be done Wee have alsoe Constituted & Ordeyned

you & every foure or more of you of wch you the sd Ste: Horsey
Wm Stevens & Wm Thorne (vnless some one of our Councell
be pnt) are alwaies to be one Comrs to enquire by the Oath of
good & lawfull men of your County aforesd of all maner of
fellonies Whitchcrafts inchantmts Sorceryes Magick Arts Tres-
passes forestallings ingrossing & extorcons wtsoeur & of all &
singler other Misdeeds & offences of wch Justices of the Peace
in England may or ought lawfully to enquire by whomesoeur
or whensoeur done or ppetrated or wch hereafter shall happen
to be done or ppetrated in the County aforesd agt the laws &
ordrs of this or pvince Provided you pceed not in any of the
cases aforesd to take life or member but thl in eury such case
you send the prisoners wth their Indictnts & the whole matter
depending before you to or Justices of or Proall Court next to be
holden of this our province whensoeur or wheresoever to be
holden there to be tryed, And further wee doe hereby authorize
you to yssue Writts, processe arrests & attachmts to hold Plea
of heare & determine and after Judgmt execucon to award in all
causes Civill whether in accons reall or personall where the
thing in accon doth not exceed the value of Three thousand
pound weight of tobacco according to the lawes Orders &
reasonable Customes made & vsed in this or pvince of Mary-
land In wch causes Civill to be tryed we doe Constitute Ordeine
& appoint you the sd Ste: Horsey Wm Stevens & Wm Thorne
or either of you to be Judgess aforesd vnlesse some one of our
Councell be then in Cort And therefore we comand you tht you
dilligently intend the keeping of the peace lawes & ordrs & all
