Inventory of Records and Briefs Volumes at the Robert C. Murphy Courts of Appeal Building
Bibliographical Notes
record - "The official report of the proceedings in a case, including the filed papers, a verbatim transcript of the trial or hearing (if any), and tangible exhibits," (Black's Law Dictionary, 7th ed. (St. Paul, MN: West, 1999), p. 1279).
Volume numbering is not uniform throughout the series. Originally, volumes were numbered sequentially without regard to a change of clerks. Later, the practice was to begin new numbering sequences when new clerks took office. Next, volume numbering alternated between the two styles. Additionally, in the case of Maurice Ogle, renumbering occurred in the middle of his tenure when a new term of the Court started.
Please note that case numbers on the spines indicate the range of case numbers contained in the volume rather than a volume's complete contents since records and briefs for dismissed cases are not bound. Most dismissed cases concern disbarment.
