Howard County Register of Wills election results, 1851-present
Notes:
1. Howard District was created from Anne Arundel
County by Chapter 22, Acts of 1838 (confirmed by Chapter 49, Acts of 1839,
and further authorized by Chapter 98, Acts of 1839). Although unrepresented
in the General Assembly, the District had the status of a county, with
its own sheriff, register of wills, and other county officers. It officially
was formed as a county in 1851 (Const. 1851, Art. VIII, sec. I). New county
officers, including a new register of wills, were chosen in 1851 when Howard
became a county.
2. Resigned December, 1845 to become sheriff of
Howard District. Brown was appointed his temporary replacement at the next
session of the Orphan's Court in February, 1846.
