Report to Governor & General Assembly due Dec. 31, 2017 (Chapters 835 & 836, Acts of 2017).

In June 2017, the Task Force to Study Bicycle Safety on Maryland Highways was authorized (Chapters 835 & 836, Acts of 2017).

The Task Force is to study and make recommendations on bicycle safety issues, including the adequacy and capacity of bike lanes, paths, and protected cycle tracks; implementation of Complete Streets strategies that facilitate safe travel for all bicyclists; and traffic control devices relating to bicycle operation and behavior towards bicycles. It also will consider public education and outreach concerning bicycles operating on highways, and funding sources to support and encourage bicycle safety. Further, the Task Force will consider how bike lanes, paths, and protected cycle tracks effect street parking and flow of pedestrian and vehicle traffic; how utilities and other infrastructure are located along bike paths, lanes, and protected cycle tracks; and what best practices would assure access to retail, residential, commercial, and other points adjacent to bike lanes, paths, and protected cycle tracks.

Authorization for the Task Force ends May 31, 2018.
