MARYLAND AT A GLANCE

BEACHES

[photo, Hammerman Area beach, Gunpowder Falls State Park, 7200 Graces Quarters, Middle River (Baltimore County), Maryland] Maryland beaches are found fronting the Atlantic Ocean on the east, and along the Chesapeake Bay in the middle of the State. Beaches also extend along lakes and rivers further inland. While the most renown of Maryland's beaches is in Ocean City, many are found scattered on the Eastern Shore. In 2021, Ocean City ranked among the top 25 Best Beaches in the U.S. by Travel + Leisure.

The Maryland Park Service of the Department of Natural Resources maintains 15 park beaches in ten Maryland counties. All State park beaches, and many county and municipal beaches, require entrance fees for access. Most beaches offer extra equipment and facility rentals as well.
