Engineer. Trip through the Northern States. Accommodations for 0 the working force of the Commission The Paris International Good Roads Confeence. Chief Engineer to attend. will pay $1000 a year. Also that the salary of the Second Assistant Engineer "be fixed at $2000, per annum., $1200 of which is to be paid by the State Roads Commission, with the understanding that the Maryland Geological & Economic Survey Commission will pay $800 per annum-This notion was seconded by Mr. Shoemaker. The question was called and a vote taken. Mr. Shoemaker, Mr. Hutton and Dr. Remsen voted in the affirmative, and Governor Crothers and Chairman Tucker voted in the negative. The motion was adopted. Dr. Reinsen moved that Mr. E. F. Rugbies be appointed First Assistant Engineer, the motion being seconded by Mr Shoemaker. Mr. Hutton nominated Mr. E. A. Keys of '.'ontgomery County, for First Assistant Engineer. The question being called, the Chairman, Governor Crothers, Dr. Reinsen and L'r. Shoemaker voted for Mr. Ruggles. Mr Hutton voted for Mr. Keys, and then made the election of Mr. Rugbies unanimous by voting for him. Dr. Remsen nominated Mr. W. D. Uhler for Second Assistant Engineer. Mr Shoemaker in seconding the nomination moved that nominations be closed. A vote was taken, and f.'r. Uhler was unanimously chosen Second Assistant Engineer. The question of a trip through the "orthern States l>y the Commission for the purpose pf inspecting the methods of road construction, being brought up, Dr. Remsen moved that the Governor, the Chairman and the Chief Engineer, make the trip for the purpose of inspecting modern methods of road construction in the different States visited, it being the understanding that the trip be taken at such time as may suit the convenience of those involved. The motion v/as seconded and adopted. Dr. Remsen brought to the attention of the Commission the matter of accommodations for the working force of the Commission, stating that he had spoken to Mr. R. Brent Keyser and Mr. Blanchard Ran-dall of the Boai of Trustees of the Johns Hopkins University, and that they wee ready to take up the question with the Commission whenever it desired to do so. The matter was referred to the Committee on Accommodations for the v/orking force of the Commission appointed at a former meeting of the Commission. Dr. Remsen spoke of the Commission's sending a representative to the Paris Good Roads International Congress in the Fall, suggesting to the Commission the importance of having all the light possible on modern, up-to-date road construction. Dr. Remsen emphasized his remakrs by saying, should the matter come up before the Commission during his absence, he wanted to be recorded as favoring the Commission's sending the Chief Engineer to Paris to attend this important conference.
