Committee to secure books, stationery, office supplies; also accommodations for Engineering Dpt Books of accounts to be open to in* spection of public Minutes of meetings to be sent members of Commission. Adjourned. two of them, except for salaries and current expenses of the Commission, which, when ordered paid by this Commission, the Chairman of the Commission is hereby authorized to sign such checks for, and that a sum sufficient to meet these items be deposited to his credit as Chairman of this Commission. It was moved, seconded and carried that in the employment of any assistant or assistants to the Chief Engineer that the Commission shall first take the advice of the Chief Engineer or any Committee of Engineers that it nay appoint to examine into the competency of such assistant engineers, reserving the right, however, if not satisfied with such recommendations, the Commission to have the right to appoint any person, who, in the judgment of the Commission, is qualified for such position. Dr. Clark moved that an examining board , consisting of the Chief Engineer of the Highways Division of the Geological Survey Commission, the City Engineer of Baltimore City and the Supervisor of Civil Engineering of the Maryland Agricultural College, be appointed to pass upon the qualifications of such engineering employees as are employed by this Commission. Seconded by Dr. Rem-sen and motion adopted. Governor Crothers moved that the Chairman of the Commission and Dr. Clark "be authorized to secure such books, stationery, furniture and office supplies, etc., as may be necessary for the business of the offices of the Commission, as well as to look into the question of the accommodation for the Engineering Department of the Commission, and to report to the Commission. Motion seconded and adopted. It was moved, seconded and carried, that all books and accounts of every kind and character shall be open at all times during business hours to the inspection of any taxpayer who may desire to see them, except in so far as this should be restricted for the purpose of protecting the safety of the vouchers and books of accounts. Mr. Shoemaker moved that typewritten copies of the minutes of the meetings of the Commission be sent to each member thereof within a reasonable time after each meeting. The motion was duly seconded and adopted. On motion of Dr Remsen the meeting adjourned to 10 o'clock Thursday morning, May 7th.1908, at the Offices of the Maryland Geological & Economic Survey Commission, Baltimore. Adjourned. *r _ r-j^€*^cf/
