ated. The infantry performed Guard duty on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and later saw combat at Antietam, Cold Harbor, the Weldon Rail Road and Peebles' Farm. The cavalry did guard duty in Maryland and Delaware, but one company fought at Gettysburg. Most of the horsemen were dismounted, however, and attached to the infantry. The artillery units became components of Batteries A and B, Maryland Light Artillery. No. 18-A - Second Regiment, Potomac Home Brigade Infantry Maryland Volunteers National Flag (Fragments) No. 18-B - Second Regiment, Potomac Home Brigade Infantry Maryland Volunteers Regimental Color (Fragments) The Second Regiment, Potomac Home Brigade Infantry, saw service in western Virginia and in the Valley of Virginia. No. 19 - Third Regiment, Potomac Home Brigade Infantry Maryland Volunteers National Flag This flag bears in the canton of its obverse the words, "From the Loyal Men of the Hampshire & Allegany To the 3rd Regiment, Potomac Home Brigade Md. Vol." Encircling this inscription is the exhortation, "Freemen Protect Your Flag—Emblem of Your National Glory," enclosed by a circle of stars. On the reverse the blue canton carries the State coat of arms. The Third Regiment, Potomac Home Brigade Infantry, served on the upper Potomac River and in western Virginia. No. 20 - First Regiment, Eastern Shore Infantry Maryland Volunteers National Flag This thirty-four star national flag of the First Regiment, Eastern Shore Infantry, bears in its canton two concentric circles of stars. It was presented to the State by R. W. Ross, color-bearer. After performing guard duty on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, the First Regiment, Eastern Shore Infantry, saw action at Gettysburg, in the Valley of Virginia, and in western Virginia. — 18 —
