No. 10-B - Seventh Regiment, Infantry, Md. Volunteers Regimental Color A companion color to that labeled 10-A, this blue regimental color was presented to the Seventh Regiment, Infantry, on December 1, 1864, by Governor Augustus W. Bradford on behalf of the State. Under the State arms are battle credits of which only Wilderness, Bethesda, Cold Harbor and Weldon Rail Road are discernible. No. 10-C • Seventh Regiment, Infantry, Md. Volunteers National Flag Only fragments remain of this national flag of the Seventh Regiment, Infantry. Probably it had thirty-four stars and was carried from the organization of the regiment in August 1862 through 1864. No. 11 - Second Brigade, Second Division, Fifth Corps Brigade Color This color of the "Maryland Brigade" was used at the time when that unit—made up of the 1st, 4th, 7th and 8th Infantry Regiments—officially was the Second Brigade of the Second Division, Fifth Corps. The triangular color carries a gold Maltese Cross, the badge of the Fifth Corps, bearing the words "Maryland Brigade." The cross is on a blue field, but a red stripe runs vertically along the hoist, or staff edge. The elaborate spearhead, probably made by a silversmith, includes in its design an eagle perched on a Maltese Cross and is engraved "Presented to Brig. Gen. A [ndrew] W. Denison by the Officers of the Maryland Brigade January 25, 1865." No. 12-A - Eighth Regiment, Infantry, Md. Volunteers National Color This is the national color of the Eighth Regiment, Infantry, Maryland Volunteers, which was probably presented to the unit upon its organization in 1862 and used until December, 1864. The color bears the Maryland coat of arms in the canton on the obverse while the reverse canton carries a circle of twenty-nine stars, plus one in each corner and another at the center, making a total of thirty-four. Some of the stars are missing. No. 12-B - Eighth Regiment, Infantry, Md. Volunteers National Flag This thirty-five star national flag was presented to the Eighth Regiment, Infantry, on December 1, 1864, by Governor Augustus W. Bradford on behalf of the State. — 15 —
