Defense's Opening Statement 741
The Defense's Strategy
In trying to show the defendant not guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, the defense will cross-examine each of the prosecution's witnesses, hoping to cast doubt on their testimony. The defense will challenge whether the witness's story is accurate or believable. Sometimes the defense will try to show that the witness told a different story about the same thing at another time. The defense will also suggest other explanations for damaging testimony, which will be more fully developed when it presents its case.
