40 / THE ALGER HISS TRIAL The Prosecution's Strategy In trying to prove Hiss guilty of perjury beyond a reasonable doubt, the prosecutor will present evidence to establish: • his motive for espionage (that he was a Communist); • the plan and method to get the documents (premeditation); • the opportunity to get the documents; • the means to type the documents (the typewriter); • that Hiss and Chambers had a close association'^ and • that Hiss saw Chambers after 1937. |
