County and State aforesaid by an order of the Orphans' Court on the 14th of December 1854
slave for life.  To Have and To Hold the said negroes Sarah & child as above bargained and sold
unto the said Matthew Bishop his heirs Executors administrators and assigns forever.  In Testimony
Whereof we George H. Meekins Robert Meekins and William L. Meekins have hereto set our hands
and affixed seal this fourteenth day of February Eighteen hundred and fifty seven

                                                                            State of Maryland Dorchester County to wit:
On this fourteenth day of February in the year of our Lord Eighteen Hundred and fifty seven
Personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace in and for said County the within named
George H. Meekins Robert Meekins and William L. Meekins and acknowledged the
within Bill of Sale to be their respective act and deed according to the purport true intent
and meaning of the same and at the same time came before me Matthew Bishop within
mentioned and made oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the consideration
set forth in this Bill of Sale is true and Bona fide as therein set forth according to the
true meaning of the act of Assembly of 1846 Chapter 271 made and provided.

William L. Hearn            Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following Deed of Manumission
Paid      To   xd              was received and recorded on the 2nd day of March 1857 to wit:
Henry Stevens negro      To all whom it may Concern be it Known that I William L Hearn of
                                      Dorchester County in the State of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations
me thereunto moving as also in further consideration of one Dollar Current money to me in hand paid
have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release
from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro man named Henry Stevens being of the
age forty three years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and him
the said negro man named Henry Stevens.  I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and
discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my executors or administrators forever
In Testimony Whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this twelth day of
January Eighteen Hundred & fifty two

                                                                       Maryland Dorchester County to wit: Be it remembered
that on this twelth day of January Eighteen hundred and fifty two personally appears William
L. Hearn party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the
Peace of the State of Maryland in and for said County and acknowledges the same to be his
act and deed for the purposes within mentioned and the negro man within named to be henceforth
manumitted and discharged from all services to him or to any claiming under him and to be free
and manumitted according to the act of Assembly in such cases made & provided
