22. Ann E. Carroll Be it remembered that the following Bill of Ex.d from Sale was recorded August 30.th 1847, To wit: Martin & Willcox {Stamp} Know all men by these presents that we John {one doll.} R. Martin and Henry Willcox of Dorchester County in the state of Maryland for and in consideration of the sum of one thousand dollars current money of Maryland to us in hand paid by Ann E. Carroll of Baltimore City in said state at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof we the said John R. Martin and Henry Willcox do hereby acknowledge, have granted, bargained and sold and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell unto the said Ann E. Carroll, her Executors, Administrators and Assigns the following named Slaves for life, Fortune, Lucy, Leah, Anna, Mintee & George. To have and to hold the said slaves above bargained & sold or mentioned and intended so to be to the said Ann E. Carroll, her Executors, Administrators and Assigns forever And we the said John R. Martin and Henry Willcox for ourselves, our heirs, executors and Administrators and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever claiming under us shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents. In Witness whereof we have hereunto placed our hands & seals this twenty third day of August in the year of Our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and forty seven. J. R. Martin and acknowledged the above Bill of sale or writing to the Act of Assembly in such case made therein named and according to the Act of Assembly in such case made and provided. Witness my hand James Hammersly Justice of the Peace State of Maryland Dorchester County, To wit: Be it remembered that on the 28.th day of August in the year 1847 before me the subscriber one of the Justices of the Peace of the said state in and for the County aforesaid personally appeared Henry Willcox and Acknowledged the above and within Bill of sale or writing to be his act and deed for the uses and purposes therein mentioned and according to the Act of Assembly in such case made & provided Brannock Moore J. P. Deliv.d Augst 31.st 1847 to Tho. H. Hicks |
