180 subscriber, a Justice of the Peace in & for the County aforesaid, James Higgins and James Hammersly, and made the following Oath, To wit: "We James Higgins & James Hammersly, subscribing witnesses to the above Bond, do make Oath that James N. Wright, Thomas R. Cook & William Thomas, Obligors mentioned in the said Bond, did severally, in our presence, sign, seal and deliver the said Bond, as their act & deed, for the purposes therein mentioned. Sworn before me on the day above mentioned. Charles Corkran William Layton Be it remembered that the following Bill of Sale Ex.d from 65 was recorded on the 16.th day of April 1849, To wit: Josiah Layton Know all men by these presents that I, Josiah Layton, of Dorchester County in the State of Maryland, for and in consideration of the sum of Seventy five dollars, current money, to me in hand paid by William Layton, of the County & State aforesaid, the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge, have granted, bargained & sold, and by these presents do grant, bargain & sell unto the said William layton all my undivided right, title, claim and interest in and to the following property, To wit: one negro woman called Harriet and her three Children, they being a part of the property to which I fell hier by the Will of Elizabeth Parks, dec.d, which said Henrietta and her three children I will warrant & defend to the said William Layton, his executors, Administrators and Assigns against me, my executors and Administrators and against every other person or persons whomsoever. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my names and affixed my seal this seventeenth day of March in the year of Our Lord Eighteen hundred & forty nine. 1849. Signed, sealed & delivered in the presence of Josiah Layton (Seal) Nicholas Langfit Kendal Fooks State of Maryland Dorchester County, To wit: Be it remembered that on this 17.th day of March in the year of Our Lord eighteen hundred & forty nine, personally appeared before me, the subscriber, one of the Justices of the Peace in and for the said County, Josiah Layton and Acknowledges the foregoing writing to be his act & deed, according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the Acts of Assembly in such cases made & provided. Nicholas Langfit J. P. State of Maryland, Dorchester County, To wit. On this 17.th day of March in the year 1849, personally appeared William Layton before the subscriber, a Justice of the Peace in and for said County, and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the consideration mentioned in the within and aforegoing Bill of sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth.
