152 said William Luttman and his heirs and assigns forever to his and their sole use & uses forever and to and for no other use intent or purpose. In Witness whereof I have hereto subscribed my name & affixed my seal this twenty sixth day of January in the year Eighteen Hundred and forty nine. Signed Sealed and delivered in the presence of James Mowbray (seal) Noah Abbott J. P. State of Maryland Dorchester County To wit on the twenty sixth day of January Eighteen Hundred and forty nine personally appears before me the Subscriber a Justice of the peace for said State & County James Mowbray and acknowledged the foregoing instrument of writing to be his Act and deed. At the same time appears before me William Luttman the grantee in the said Instrument and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the consideration mentioned in the said instrument is true and bonafide as set forth in the said Instrument Acknowledged and Sworn to before me Noah Abbott J. P. Wm G Horsey Be it remembered that the following Bill of Sale was recorded on the 29th Paid Ex.d from 65 day of January 1849 To wit James W. Henry Know all men by these presents that I James W Horsey of the Town of Vienna in Dorchester County Maryland as agent or attorney for Isaac N Steele of Baltimore City and State aforesaid for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred and twelve Dollars and fifty cents current money of the United States to me in hand paid by Wm G Horsey of Caroline County and State aforesaid on account and for the use of the aforesaid Isaac N. Steele at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have bargained and sold and delivered unto the said Wm G Horsey one negro man Joe a slave unto the twenty fifth day of December Anno Domini eighteen Hundred and fifty four thence and after that him the said negro man Joe is to be free and absolved from servitude. To Have and To Hold the said negro man Joe unto the said Wm G Horsey his executors administrators and assigns to him and their own proper use and benefit for and during the term aforesaid and I the said James W Henry agent or attorney as aforesaid my heirs executors and administrators the said bargained and sold negro man Joe unto the said Wm G Horsey his heirs executors and Administrators and Assigns from and against all persons whomsoever shall and will warrant and defend by these presents. In Testimony whereof the aforesaid James W Henry and Wm G Horsey have hereunto subscribed their names and Seals affixed this 22.nd day of January Eighteen Hundred forty nine Signed sealed and delivered in the presence of James W Henry (seal) Geo A L Smith J. William G Henry (seal) Dorchester County State of Maryland sct On this 22d day of January Anno Domini eighteen Hundred and forty nine before the subscriber a Justice of the peace in and for the County and State aforesaid personally and respectively appeared Dr James W Henry the party grantee (as agent or attorney for James N Steele Esq) and William G Horsey Esqr the party grantee who are named in the within Bill of Sale and acknowledged the same Bill |
