JOINT RESOLUTIONS

and the owners and operators of underground storage tanks within
the State; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded by the
Department of Legislative Reference to the Maryland Congressional
Delegation: Senators Paul S. Sarbanes and Barbara A. Mikulski,
Senate Office Building, Washington, D.C. 20510; and
Representatives Royden P. Dyson, Helen Delich Bentley, Benjamin
L. Cardin, C. Thomas McMillen, Steny H. Hoyer, Beverly B. Byron,
Kweisi Mfume, and Constance A. Morella, House Office Building,
Washington, D.C. 20515; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be forwarded by the
Department of Legislative Reference to the Honorable William
Donald Schaefer, Governor of Maryland; the Honorable Thomas V.
Mike Miller, Jr., President of the Senate of Maryland; the
Honorable R. Clayton Mitchell, Jr., Speaker of the House of
Delegates; and Mr. Lee M. Thomas, Administrator, Environmental
Protection Agency, 401 M Street S.W., Washington D.C. 20460.

(House Joint Resolution No. 11)

A House Joint Resolution concerning

Improvement of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge

FOR the purpose of requesting the Maryland Department of
Transportation to work with its counterparts in Virginia,
the District of Columbia, and the appropriate federal
agencies in widening and improving the Woodrow Wilson
Bridge.

WHEREAS, The Woodrow Wilson Bridge was constructed in 1961
to handle 75,000 vehicles daily; however, by 1986 over 115,000
vehicles were using the Wilson Bridge daily; and

WHEREAS, The number of vehicles using the Wilson Bridge is
expected to continue to increase due to dramatic population
growth and enhanced employment opportunities in Prince George's,
Charles, Prince William and Fairfax counties, and that by . the
year 2010 over 100,000 more vehicles than the number for which
the bridge was originally designed will be crossing the bridge
each day; and
