EXECUTIVE ORDERS

Warrant of Execution pending further order of the court;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, HARRY HUGHES, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF
MARYLAND, BY VIRTUE OF THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME BY THE
CONSTITUTION AND ARTICLE 41, § 4-603, OF THE MARYLAND CODE,
HEREBY ORDER THAT HE SENTENCE OF DEATH BY LETHAL GAS BE
COMMUTED TO PENAL CONFINEMENT FOR THE TERM OF HER NATURAL
LIFE, WITHOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF PAROLE.

GOVERNOR'S ADVISORY BOARD FOR JUSTICE ASSISTANCE

WHEREAS, The Governor's Commission on Law enforcement and
Administration of Justice was created by Executive Order in
June, 1967; and

WHEREAS, The composition and functions of the Commission were
revised by Executive Orders of April 14, 1969, June 5, 1969,
January 15, 1971, April 14, 1975, November 13, 1978,
December 21, 1978, February 4, 1982 and June 26, 1984.

WHEREAS, Certain substantive refinements to the Order will
improve and better assist in achieving the goal of more
effective State assistance in the administration of justice.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, WILLIAM DONALD SCHAEFER, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE
OF MARYLAND, BY VIRTUE OF THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME BY THE
CONSTITUTION AND LAWS OF MARYLAND, HEREBY PROMULGATE THE
FOLLOWING EXECUTIVE ORDER RESCINDING EXECUTIVE ORDER
01.01.1984.06, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY:

A. Governor's Office of Justice Assistance.

(1) Creation and Composition.

(a)  The Office of Justice Assistance is created
as a unit within the Executive Departments.

(b)  The Office shall be headed by an Executive
Director appointed by the Governor, to
serve at his pleasure. The Executive
Director is responsible directly to the
Governor or his designee and shall receive
the salary provided for in the State
