A House Joint Resolution concerning
Asbestos - Automobile Mechanics - Study Commission
FOR the purpose of requesting the Governor to establish a
commission to study the issue of funding by the automobile
industry of periodic medical examinations of automobile
mechanics to detect the presence of asbestos related disease
problem of auto mechanics being exposed to asbestos and the
development of prevention and intervention strategies,
including education, work practices, medical examinations,
and their financial impact, to reduce the risk of auto
mechanics incurring diseases caused by inhalation of
asbestos.
WHEREAS, Scientific studies on asbestos have been conducted
by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the National
Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, and the U.S.
Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health
Administration; and
WHEREAS, Asbestos materials have been determined to
constitute a potential hazard to people exposed to asbestos; and
