Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in this article, any person who
receives his retirement annuity through the Teachers' Retirement System of the
State of Maryland may, at his option, elect to have the premium or any part
thereof, for locally approved medical insurance participated in by the City of
Baltimore or any of the counties for teachers retired from employment by
Baltimore City or any of the counties, deducted from his annuity by the Teachers'
Retirement System and returned to the appropriate jurisdiction for payment on his
behalf to the carrier so approved. However, neither the teachers Retirement
System of the State of Maryland nor any other State agency or instrumentality
shall be otherwise responsible for the payment of any part of the premium for the
above-mentioned medical insurance approved by the City of Baltimore or any of
the counties.

(13) Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in this article, any person retired
from membership in the State Police Retirement System of the State of Maryland.
may, at his option, elect to have the premium or any part thereof, for
State-approved medical insurance for retired State Police OR FOR INSURANCE
AUTHORIZED BY EMPLOYEES' ORGANIZATIONS, DUES OF
EMPLOYEES' ORGANIZATIONS AND PAYMENTS TO THE STATE
EMPLOYEES' CREDIT UNION OF MARYLAND, INC., deducted from his
annuity by the Employees' Retirement System and paid on his behalf to the carrier
so approved.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take
effect July 1, 1973.

CHAPTER 605
(House Bill 1095)

AN ACT to add new Section 704A to Article 27 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1971 Replacement Volume), title "Crimes and Punishments",
subtitle "III. Places of Reformation and Punishment", subheading "Division of
Correction", to follow immediately after Section 704 thereof, and to repeal and
re-enact, with amendments, Section 700(b) of Article 27 of the Code (1972
Supplement), same title, subtitle, and subheading; to provide uniform rules and
regulations governing diminution of the period of confinement of inmates of
county, town, and city jails; and to make Section 700(b) of Article 27, dealing
with diminution of periods of confinement of inmates under the jurisdiction of
the State Division of Correction, uniform with the provisions of this Act.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That new Section 704A be and it is hereby added to Article 27 of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1971 Replacement Volume), title "Crimes and
Punishments", subtitle "III. Places of Reformation and Punishment", subheading
"Division of Correction", to follow immediately after Section 704 thereof, and that
Section 700(b) of Article 27 of the Code (1972 Supplement), same title, subtitle,
and subheading, be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, and
all to read as follows:
