they shall receive a temporary real estate salesman's license effec-
tive for a period of one year from date of issuance. For and during
the year in which the temporary license is effective, the licensee is
required to serve as an apprentice with a State licensed real estate
broker and successfully complete a basic course in real estate ap-
proved by the State Real Estate Commission. Upon satisfactory
completion of the required real estate course, the temporary licensee
may apply for and be granted a regular real estate salesman's li-
cense. In the event the temporary licensee fails to satisfactorily com-
plete the prescribed real estate course and is unable to obtain his
regular license he must retake and successfully complete the pre-
scribed course after which he shall reapply for his temporary license,
pass the qualifying examination and act as an apprentice for an ad-
ditional year before applying for his regular license in the manner
above provided. In the event any applicant for admission to examina-
tion for a real estate salesman's license shall present evidence of
having satisfactorily completed courses in real estate subjects in any
college, the educational requirements adopted by the Commission
pursuant to this subsection may be waived by the Commission.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1972.

CHAPTER 676
(Senate Bill 522)

AN ACT to add new Section 1A to Article 17 of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1966 Replacement Volume), title "Clerks of Courts,"
subtitle "General Duties of Clerks," to follow immediately after
Section 1 thereof, and to repeal and re-enact, with amendments,
Section 8 of Article 54 of said Code (1971 Supplement), title "Hall
of Records," subtitle "Hall of Records Commission," establishing a
procedure of destruction of certain books and papers by Clerks
of Court in conjunction with the Hall of Records and the
established procedures for such destruction, and correcting certain
references therein.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 1A be and it is hereby added to Article 17 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1966 Replacement Volume), title
"Clerks of Courts," subtitle "General Duties of Clerks," to follow
immediately after Section 1 thereof, and to read as follows:

1A.

The clerk UNDER SUCH RULES AND REGULATIONS AS
MAY BE PROMULGATED BY THE COURT OF APPEALS may

destroy pleadings, papers and files in his custody which, because
of their character, serve no useful purpose in being retained, fol-
lowing the procedures established pursuant to this Section. Before
any pleadings, papers or files are destroyed, the proposed destruc-
tion must be approved in writing by the Resident Circuit Court
Judges
