performance of his duties, and the persons so appointed shall re-
ceive such compensation as provided in the State budget.

(2)  distribute, under the supervision and direction of the library
committee, the bound copies of the laws and journals of the General
Assembly, the Maryland Reports and Maryland Appellate Reports,
including the advance reports to the Maryland Reports. The remain-
ing copies shall be retained in the State Library or may be used by
the State Library for exchange purposes.

(3)  deliver to each public circulating library, or library associa-
tion which may make application therefor, one copy of the laws and
journals, provided there be at the time of application more than
twenty-five copies of the volume applied for in the library.

(4) not allow any book, map or documents to be taken out of said
library except by the Executive and Legislative Departments, and
other State agencies located in Annapolis, members of the General
Assembly, Judges of the Court of Appeals, Court of Special Appeals,
and on interlibrary loan to other libraries.

(5)  have, with the approval of the Library Committee, the power
and authority to sell and/or exchange from time to time such books,
including the Maryland Reports, Maryland Appellate Reports, Ses-
sion Laws, Codes, maps and periodicals, in the State Library, as he
considers prudent and desirable to sell and/or exchange, and the pro-
ceeds of such sales, after deducting the expenses incident thereto,
shall be paid over to the State Treasurer within thirty days after the
receipt thereof; provided no book, map or periodical shall be so sold
if its sale would break a set.

(6)  report in writing to the library committee as often as may be
required by the Committee upon the operations of the Library.

(7)  perform such other duties as may be assigned to him by law.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1972.

CHAPTER 673
(Senate Bill 436)

AN ACT to repeal and re enact, with amendments, AND RE-EN-
ACT, WITH AMENDMENTS, Section 415 of Article 27 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1971 Replacement Volume), title
"Crimes and Punishments," subtitle "Crimes and Punishments,"
subheading "Musical Instruments," to provide that PROVIDE
THAT REPEAL the prohibition against using musical instruments
on streets or in public places to solicit aid, except for charitable
purposes, , shall apply to both sexes. SHALL APPLY TO BOTH
SEXES.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 415 of Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
