1868                             Joint Resolutions

from the standpoint of the nutritional standards of the U.S. Depart-
ment of Agriculture, which are in general use throughout the country,
and from the standpoint of efficiency of the system to see if these
costs could be controlled without sacrificing nutritional standards;
now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That a legislative
committee be appointed to study the sharp increase in daily per
capita costs for food for patients in mental institutions and institu-
tions for the retarded in Maryland.

(House Joint Resolution 97)

House Joint Resolution requesting the United States Congress and
Department of Health, Education and Welfare to take immediate
action to halt the pollution of the ocean waters off the shores of
Maryland and Delaware.

Whereas, It has become common knowledge that certain cities in
the States of Pennsylvania and New Jersey are dumping untreated
sewerage and solid wastes in the Atlantic Ocean not too distant from
the shores of
Maryland and Delaware; and

Whereas, This dumping has been declared by qualified experts to
be a serious hazard not only to fish and wildlife but to human beings
as well; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the Congress
of the United States and the Federal Department of Health, Educa-
tion and Welfare take immediate action to halt the pollution of our
ocean waters being caused by the dumping of untreated wastes into
the waters of the Atlantic Ocean; and be it therefore

Resolved, That copies of this resolution be sent to the Secretary
of the Department of Health, Education and Welfare, Washington,
D.C. and to all members of the United States Senate and House of
Representatives representing the States of Maryland and Delaware
in the United States Congress.

(House Joint Resolution 103)

House Joint Resolution requesting the Governor to appoint a Com-
mission to study and make recommendations relating to the main-
tenance and preservation of the shoreline and dune line of Ocean
City and the establishment of a line, beyond which would be public
beach.
