(58) x.d The Hon.ble Edward Carteret and Edward Harrison Esq.rs His Majesties Post Master General of all His Majesties Dominions In Europe Africa and America To all whom these Presents shall come Greeting Know yee that we the said Edward Carteret and Edward Harrison reposeing Especial Trust and Confidence in the Honourable Colonel Alexander Spotswood of Chelsea in the County of Middlesex and having received good Testimony of his Fidelity and Loyalty to his Majesty of his Ability and sufficiency to mannage and better regulate the Posts in America and of this inclination and Capacity to improve and advance his Majesties Revenue therein Do by these presents nominate Depute Constitue authorise and appoint him the said Alexander Spotswood to be our sole and only ^deputy^ Post Master General of all his Majesties Provinces and Dominions in North America and the West Indies and all other his Majesties Dominions and Territories in America To Have Hold Excercise and Enjoy the sid office with all Powers Priviledges Proffitts Advantages and Authorities thereunto belonging unto the said Alexander Spotswood from the Twenty fourth day of June next Anno Domini 1730 for and During the full Term of Ten Years or so Long as he shall well Demean himselfe in the same And we do hereby strictly require all Officers and Others imployed in or about the posts already settled or to be settled in any part of His Majesty.s said Dominions and Provinces in America or in relation to the Revenue ariseing by the port of Letters there from time to time to give an account of their Doings and Transactions therein tot he said Alexander Spotswood and to Observe and Obey his Orders Directions & Instructions in relation to their Respective Officers Trusts & Employments And the Better to Enable the said Alexander Spotswood to Execute the Office and Trust reposed in him We Do hereby Deligate unto him all our power and authority to appoint sufficient Deputies Officers and Agents under him for the better mannaging and Ordering the posts in America And for the Collecting and improving the Revenue ariseing thereby Granting him full and sufficient power and authority so farr as by Law we can to suspend or Remove such Deputy or Deputies and all and every other person or persons whatsoever imployed or to be imployed in the Management of the said posts or in the Collection of the said Revenue who shall be Guilty of any neglect mismanagement or (Breach) |
