shall have the same power with respect to the salaries of the office
of the Sheriff as it has under the city charter with respect to the
salaries of all municipal departments. Any deputy sheriff hired after
June 80th, 1970 shall start at a salary of $7,000 with increment in-
creases of $500 per year until such time as he shall have reached the
maximum salary for a deputy sheriff.

The mayor and city council shall pay monthly to the Sheriff of
Baltimore City one-twelfth of the amount provided in the ordinance
of estimates for the expenses of the Sheriff's office. Within thirty
days after June 30th in each and every year the Sheriff of Baltimore
City shall pay to the mayor and city council of Baltimore any of
the unexpended expense funds advanced during the year preceding
said June 30th, and render a detailed account to the mayor and city
council of Baltimore of all expense funds received and expended by
him.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the provisions of this Act
shall not be construed to extend or apply to the salary of the Sheriff
in office on the effective date of this Act, but the provisions of this
Act pertaining to the salary of the elected sheriff shall take effect
with the next term of office of the sheriff after the elections in the
month of November 1970.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1970.

CHAPTER 593
(House Bill 491)

AN ACT to authorize and empower the County Commissioners of
Calvert County to borrow after January 1, 1972, upon the faith
and credit of Calvert County, an amount or amounts not exceed-
ing One Million Dollars ($1,000,000) and to issue bonds therefor
for the construction, alteration, remodeling and equipping of
schools and school facilities in Calvert County and for the acquisi-
tion of sites therefor; and providing for the levy of taxes in Calvert
County for the payment of principal and interest on such bonds
and/or the pledging of the proceeds from any "Current Expense
Incentive Aid" payments as provided in Article 77, Section 129
of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1969 Replacement Volume),
and of certain other monies and revenues for such purposes.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the County Commissioners of Calvert County are authorized
and empowered to borrow, after January 1, 1972, at one time, or
from time to time, on the faith and credit of Calvert County, a
sum or sums not exceeding in the aggregate One Million Dollars
($1,000,000), and to issue and sell bonds therefor, the proceeds
thereof to be used for the construction, alteration, remodeling and
equipping of schools and school facilities in Calvert County, and
for the acquisition of sites therefor, and to pay all expenses, including
