notated Code of Maryland (1968 Supplement), title "Justices of the
Peace," subtitle "Trial Magistrates System," be and they are hereby
repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

98B.

(11) (a) In addition to the chief clerk, there shall be a deputy
chief clerk, who shall receive a minimum annual salary of seven
thousand dollars ($7,000) [, two (2) senior clerks of the People's
Court who shall receive minimum annual salaries of forty-five hun-
dred dollars ($4,500), three (3) junior clerks who shall receive mini-
mum annual salaries of thirty-five hundred dollars ($3,500), five (5)
constables who shall receive minimum annual salaries of thirty-five
hundred dollars ($3,500), and such additional employees as the chief
judge may from time to time deem necessary who shall receive such
salaries as are provided in the annual county budget. The chief clerk
with the approval of the chief judge, shall make the appointments
to all such positions and shall supervise and direct the work thereof]
AND FIVE (5) CONSTABLES WHO SHALL RECEIVE MINI-
MUM ANNUAL SALARIES OF THIRTY-FIVE HUNDRED DOL-
LARS ($3,500.00). The clerical personnel of the court shall be desig-
nated by the following titles: Criminal Clerk, Assistant Criminal
Clerk, Civil Clerk, Assistant Civil Clerk, Traffic Clerk, Assistant
Traffic Clerk, Cashier, and Judicial Secretary. There shall be such
additional employees as the Chief Judge may from time to time deem
necessary who shall receive such salaries as are provided in the
annual county budget. The Chief Clerk with the approval of the
Chief Judge, shall make the appointments to all such positions and
shall supervise and direct the work thereof.

(c)  The County [Commissioners] Council of Anne Arundel County
[are] is authorized and directed to [annually] appropriate annually
an amount sufficient for the proper and effective administration of
the People's Court.

(d)  The chief clerk, the deputy chief clerk, [the senior clerks, the
junior clerks] and all other clerks by whatever title designated , in-
cluding the Judicial Secretary,
shall be empowered to administer
oaths.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1969.

CHAPTER 471
(Senate Bill 656)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 38 (a)
of Article 66B of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1967 Replace-
ment Volume), title "Zoning and Planning," subtitle "Historic
Area Zoning"; and to add new Section 51 to follow immediately
after Section 50 thereof of the said Article and subtitle of the Code,
amending the laws concerning historic area zoning in order to make
this subtitle effective in all municipalities within the State and to
add a severability clause.
