When oral or written examinations are required, they shall be
held at such time and place as the Board shall determine. When
examinations are required on fundamental engineering subjects
(such as are ordinarily given in college curricula), the applicant
shall be permitted to take this part of the professional examination
prior to his completion of the requisite years of experience in engi-
neering work, and satisfactory passage of this portion of the profes-
sional examination by the applicant shall constitute a credit for a
period of ten years. The Board shall issue to each applicant upon
successfully passing the examination in fundamental engineering
subjects a certificate stating that he has passed the examination and
that his name has been recorded as an engineer-in-training.
The scope of the examinations and the methods of procedure shall
be prescribed by the Board with special reference to the applicant's
ability to design and supervise engineering works so as to insure
the safety of life, health, and property. Examinations shall be given
for the purpose of determining the qualifications of applicants for
registration separately in engineering and in land surveying. A can-
didate failing on examination may apply for re-examination at the
expiration of six months and will be re-examined without payment
of additional fee. Subsequent examination will be granted upon pay-
ment of a fee to be determined by the Board, which fee shall not
exceed ten dollars ($10.00).]

(a) Examinations shall be held at such time and place as the

mental engineering or land surveying subjects (such as are ordi-
narily given in approved engineering or land surveying curricula),
the applicant shall be permitted to take such examination prior to
his completion of the requisite years of experience, and credit for the
successful completion of this examination by the applicant shall be
valid for a period of ten years. The Board shall issue to each appli-
cant, upon successfully completing the examination in the funda-
mentals of engineering or land surveying, a certificate stating that
he has passed the examination and that his name has been recorded
as an engineer-in-training or land surveyor-in-training.
(b) The examination in the principles and practice of engineer-
ing or land surveying shall not be taken by an applicant until he has
satisfied all of the other requirements for registration set forth in
this article.
(c) The scope of the examinations and the methods of procedure
for taking and grading shall be prescribed by the Board to test the
applicant's ability to design, plan and direct engineering works or
land surveying so as to insure the safety of life, health and property.
Separate examinations shall be given in engineering and in land
surveying.
(d) An applicant who fails an examinatoin EXAMINATION may
apply for re-examination within six months of the date upon which
notice of his prior failure was sent by the Board, which application
may be granted upon payment of a fee not to exceed twenty dollars
($20.00). An applicant who fails the re-examination may, upon ap-
plication and payment of a fee not to exceed twenty dollars ($20.00),
be admitted to a third examination.
