(x) In Baltimore City, the Sheriff shall receive an annual salary
of $16,000.00. He shall appoint an under-sheriff and chief deputy at
an annual salary of $10,000, one writ clerk and four assistant writ
clerks at an annual salary of $7,000, one stenographer and docket
clerk at an annual salary of [$5,000] $5,500, two clerks at an annual
salary of $4,000 and thirty-nine deputy sheriffs at annual salaries
of $6,000 each and such assistants at such compensation as shall be
provided for in the annual ordinance of estimates of Baltimore City.
Provision shall also be made in said ordinance for the expenses of
the office of the Sheriff, including the purchase and maintenance of
motor vehicles, and the mayor and city council shall have the same
power with respect to the salaries of the office of Sheriff as it has
under the city charter with respect to the salaries of all municipal
departments.

The mayor and city council shall pay monthly to the Sheriff of
Baltimore City one twelfth of the amount provided in the ordinance
of estimates for the expenses of the Sheriff's office. Within thirty
days after December 31st in each and every year the Sheriff of
Baltimore City shall pay to the mayor and city council of Baltimore
any of the unexpended expense funds advanced during the year
preceding said December 31st, and render a detailed account to the
mayor and city council of Baltimore of all expense funds received
and expended by him.

Sec. 2. And. be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June JULY 1, 1966.

CHAPTER 271
(Senate Bill 607)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 566 (b)
of Article 43 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1965 Replace-
ment Volume), title "Health", subtitle "Hospitals and Related
Institutions", to increase the maximum amount of money appro-
priated by the County Commissioners of Somerset County for the
construction of a nursing home hospital in the county.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 566 (b) of Article 43 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1965 Replacement Volume), title "Health", subtitle "Hospitals
and Related Institutions", be and it is hereby repealed and re-en-
acted, with amendments, and to read as follows:

566.

(b) The Board of County Commissioners of Somerset County shall
cooperate within the terms of this section and subtitle for the con-
struction of a nursing home hospital and related hospital facilities
by contributions up to [one hundred and fifty thousand dollars
($150,000.00)] two hundred thousand dollars ($200,000.00) of the
