19.

(1) The justices of the peace in and for Baltimore, Calvert,
Charles, Montgomery, Prince George's and Queen Anne's counties,
in any case within their jurisdiction, shall have power, before con-
viction of any person accused of crime, with the written consent of
the person so accused, and after conviction or after plea of guilty or
of nolo contendere, without such consent, to: (a) Suspend that
imposition of sentence; (b) place such person on probation before
commitment; (c) and in all such cases above named to make such
written conditions of suspension of sentence and probation as said
justices of the peace may deem proper; and (d) upon determining
that such person has violated any such condition, to strike out the
suspension of sentence and to impose such sentence as may be
authorized by law and to revoke such probation. The provisions of
this section shall also apply to St. Mary's County and Cecil County.
Provided, however, in Calvert, St. Mary's, Cecil and Queen Anne's
counties any person placed on probation shall be under the super-
vision of the State Department of Parole and Probation.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1965.

CHAPTER 552
(Senate Bill 408)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 343A (a)
of Article 66C of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1964 Supple-
ment), title "Natural Resources", sub-title "Forests and Parks",
sub-heading "In General", to increase the number of members of
the Commission on Forests and Parks, to provide the qualifications
for the additional members of the Commission and to provide for
the effectiveness of this Act.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 343A (a) of Article 66C of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1964 Supplement), title "Natural Resources", sub-title
"Forests and Parks", sub-heading "In General", be and it is hereby
repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

343A.

(a) The Commission of Forests and Parks as presently constituted
is hereby continued. It shall consist of [five] seven persons, citizens
of the State, who shall be appointed by the Governor for terms of
five years each. One member shall be appointed on the recommenda-
tion of the Maryland State Grange; one on the recommendation of
the Maryland Farm Bureau; one shall have had practical experience
in the lumbering business; and [two] four shall be appointed for
their general interest in the advancement of State parks and recrea-
tion. At all times at least one member of the Commission must be a
resident of Garrett County.
