1442 Joint Resolutions
Whereas, Maryland laws give greater protection to waterfowl
than do most states of the Nation, by;
1. Prohibiting Sunday hunting
2. Prohibiting waterfowl hunting from boats (except sneakboats);
and
Whereas, Federal Migratory Bird Regulations adopted by the
Secretary of the Interior do not provide for an open season after
January 15 of each year; and
Whereas, the Maryland Game and Inland Fish Commission is
not authorized under the provisions of the Migratory Bird Treaty
Act to extend the open season on migratory birds; now, therefore,
be it
Resolved, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That in the future
the Secretary of the Interior give consideration to the extension of
the open season on waterfowl after January 15 to compensate for
loss of hunting opportunity caused by prolonged ice conditions in
Maryland waters.

(Senate Joint Resolution 4)
Senate Joint Resolution urging the Governor to appoint a commis-
sion to study the feasibility and ways and means of erecting a
bridge between Assateague Island and the mainland of Worcester
County.
Whereas, the State of Maryland has one of the finest potential
vacation areas of the Eastern Seaboard Region located on Assateague
Island, which island is located adjacent to the mainland of Worcester
County; and
Whereas, there are presently approximately two thousand eight
hundred property owners on Assateague Island; most of said prop-
erty owners are unable to develop their lots because of the difficulty
of reaching the Island since the only access is by means of an in-
adequate ferry system; and
Whereas, if a bridge were constructed which would link
Assateague Island to the mainland, this would greatly aid the de-
velopment of this resort area and would increase the tax basis by
approximately twenty million dollars; now therefore, be it

be requested to appoint a commission to study the feasibility and
