tricts shall compose the first commissioner district. The third and
sixth election districts shall compose the second commissioner district,
and the fourth, fifth and seventh election districts shall compose the
third commissioner district, and one commissioner shall be elected
as hereinafter provided by the general vote of the county from each
of said commissioner districts, who shall serve for four years from
the date of his election, and shall be eligible to succeed himself, a
majority of said commissioners constituting a quorum for the trans-
action of business.]

46 (a). There is hereby created a five man Board of County
Commissioners for St. Mary's County, the said Board to be elected
and constituted as set forth below.

(b). Beginning with the election in the year 1958, the County
Commissioners shall be elected respectively from the first, second,
third, fourth and fifth Commissioner Districts of St. Mary's County.
At each primary election in St. Mary's County to which persons are
nominated for the Board of County Commissioners that person from
each party who is a resident of each of the Commissioner Districts
respectively, and who polls the greatest number of votes cast among
all the candidates from his party ivho reside in that Commissioner
District shall become the nominee of that party for the general
election. The County Commissioners shall be elected on the general
ticket by the voters of the County and at the general election the
candidate from each such district respectively who polls the greatest
number of votes among all the candidates from that district shall
be declared to be the County Commissioner from that Commissioner
District.

(c). The first Commissioner District of St. Mary's County shall
be comprised of 1st, 2nd and 9th Election Districts; the Second Com-
missioner District shall be comprised of the 8th Election District;
the Third Commissioner District shall be comprised of the 3rd Elec-
tion District; the fourth Commissioner District shall be comprised
of the 4th and 7th Election Districts, and the Fifth Commissioner
District shall be comprised of the 5th and 6th Election Districts.
A majority of said Commissioners shall constitute a quorum for the
transaction of business.

(d). In any case wherein there is more than one Election District
within a Commissioner District, the representative from that Com-
missioner District who has served two consecutive elective terms of
office on the Board of County Commissioners shall be ineligible to
succeed himself for the term immediately following the second of
said two consecutive election terms.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That Section 48 of Article 19
of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition) of
said title and sub-title be and it is hereby repealed.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That nothing in this Act shall
be construed to affect the tenure or the qualifications of the members
of the Board of County Commissioners of St. Mary's County who
are in office at the time this Act becomes effective for the duration
of the terms for which respectively elected.

SEC. 4. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1955.
