CHAPTER 139.

Passed Jan. 21,
1840.

An act to grant to William R. Trippe, late Collector of
Talbot County, further time to complete his collections.

Time extended.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the time limited by law within which William R.
Trippe, late collector of Talbot county, shall have made
his collections, be and the same is hereby extended to the
first day of December in the year eighteen hundred and
forty-one.

CHAPTER 140.

Passed Jan. 22,
1840.

An act to authorise Samuel Leonard to remove into this
State four Slaves for life.

Authority gran-
ted.
Provisoes.

Be it enacted by ike General Assembly of Maryland,
That Samuel Leonard be, and he is hereby authorised to
remove into this State four negroes, slaves for life; provi-
ded, said Samuel Leonard shall, within sixty days af-
ter such removal, file with the clerk of Somerset county
court, a statement in writing, sworn to by the said Samu-
el Leonard, containing the age, sex, names, and distin-
guishing marks of said slaves, and shall also within the
time aforesaid, pay to the clerk of said county for the use
of the Maryland colonization society, the sums required
to be paid by the act of December session eighteen hun-
dred and thirty-three, chapter eighty-seven; and provided,
that the statement or affidavit provided for by this bill, shall
also state that said slaves are slaves for life.

CHAPTER 141.

Passed Jan. 25,
1840.

An act to extend the time of Nicholas Gatch, Collector of
Taxes of Baltimore County, to complete his collections.

Empowered to

collect taxes.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Nicholas Gatch, one of the collectors of
Baltimore county, be and he is hereby authorised and em-
powered to collect any balances or arrears of taxes that
may be due to said Gatch.
