equipment shall be paid for and furnished by the Maryland-
National Capital Park & Planning Commission and shall be
the same as other Montgomery County Police of the same
grade.

Section 2. Be it further enacted, That the County Com-
missioners shall designate one of said police officers so ap-
pointed, as chief of the Montgomery County Police at a salary
not to exceed the sum of three thousand ($3, 000. 00) dollars
per annum, payable in equal monthly instalments. And in
addition to said salary the County Commissioners are author-
ized to- allow the said chief of police the sum of six hundred
($600. 00) dollars for maintenance and upkeep of the automo-
biles to be used by the chief of police and any expenses for
uniforms, to be worn as the County Commissioners may pre-
scribe for the said chief of police. That the chief of police,
as aforesaid, shall have control and supervision over the other
members of the force, and shall assign members of said force
at such hours and duties as said chief of police may think
proper, subject, however, at all times to such rules, orders and
regulations as the County Commissioners may from time to
time prescribe or ordain.

Section 3. That the County Commissioners of Montgomery
County shall designate five of the said police officers so ap-
pointed as sergeants of the Montgomery County police at a
salary not to exceed the sum of twenty-one hundred ($2, -
100. 00) dollars per annum, payable monthly, and shall desig-
nate four or said police officers so appointed as patrolmen,
"first class, " of the Montgomery County police at a salary
not to exceed the sum of eighteen hundred ($1, 800. 00) dollars
per annum, payable monthly; and shall designate the remain-
ing police officers so appointed as patrolmen at a salary not
to exceed fifteen hundred ($1, 500. 00) dollars per annum,
payable monthly, and the County Commissioners are further
authorized to set up a fund equal to the total amount of three
hundred ($300) dollars for each member of the police force,
which fund shall be used by the County Commissioners for the
purpose of defraying each member's expenses for material and
supplies for his motorcycle, automobile, uniform and official
equipment; provided, however, that in no case will the fund
so established be paid to the members of the police force, but
shall be used to pay vouchers for all expenses submitted by the
members, which vouchers shall first bear the endorsement of
