out compensation and for such duration of time not to ex-
ceed one year as they may think proper.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1935.

CHAPTER 273.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Sections
6, 7, 8 and 50 of Article 48A of the Code of Public General
Laws of Maryland, 1929 Supplement, title "Insurance De-
partment, " limiting the compensation to be paid to offi-
cials and employees of the Insurance Department.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Sections 6, 7, 8 and 50 of Article 48A of
the Code of Public General Laws of Maryland, 1929 Sup-
plement, title "Insurance Department, " be and the same
are hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to
read as follows:

6. Examiner. There shall be an examiner of the in-
surance department, who shall be appointed by the Com-
missioner and whose duty it shall be to examine, under
the direction of the Commissioner, the condition and affairs
of every insurance company of this State and such other
companies doing business in this State as the Commission-
er may direct, in order that the Commissioner may know
whether or not such companies are solvent and in compli-
ance with the laws of this State. Said examiner shall re-
ceive an annual compensation as fixed and provided by the
budget and the per diem provided by Section 50, to be paid
by the companies examined by him, provided, how-
ever, that the total amount of salary and per diem fees shall
not exceed forty-five hundred dollars ($4, 500. 00) in any
one year.

7. Actuary. The Commissioner shall also appoint an
actuary for the department, who shall receive an annual
compensation as fixed and provided by the budget, and the
fees provided by Section 40, to be paid by the companies
whose policies he shall value as required by law, pro-
vided, however, that the total amount of salary and per
