business meeting was held in our building in the afternoon, and the
Archivist addressed the dinner meeting at Carvel Hall on "Maryland
Records, Past and Present." I can report that we have never had a
more appreciative group to visit us. We were especially pleased at
this favorable reaction because the American Society of Genealogists
numbers among its members some of the most discerning individuals in
this field.
We sent three members of our staff to the meeting of the National
Microfilm Association: Mr. Beach, Mr. Saunders and Mr. Weatherly.
This meeting was held April 2-4, 1959, in Washington. Two of our
staff were invited to attend the annual meeting of the American Asso-
ciation of State Librarians which was held at The Library of Congress
in November 1959. Mr. Skordas and Mr. Weatherly were our rep-
resentatives. In the same month, Mr. Skordas and Mr. Saunders
visited a special presentation of Recordak and Haloid-Xerox systems
for microfilming. This exhibit was also held in Washington.
ORGANIZATIONS OF STATE AND LOCAL OFFICERS
Mr. Skordas and Mr. Beach attended the annual meeting of the
Court Clerks Association held at Ocean City, August 15-16, 1958.
Mr. Beach and Mr. Straubinger attended the annual meeting of the
Association of County Commissioners of Maryland, January 28, 1959,
in Annapolis; and Mr. Beach was present at the meeting of the Mary-
land Municipal League, held at Ocean City, June 15-16, 1959.
LOCAL HISTORICAL GROUPS
Mr. White filled two engagements to discuss the work of the
Hall of Records. On February 11, 1959, he described our genealogical
records to the members of the Peggy Stewart Tea Party Chapter of
the Daughters of the American Revolution; and on April 21, 1959, he
discussed our microfilm work at a dinner meeting of the Denton Rotary
Club.
MISCELLANEOUS
The Hall of Records was the subject of an interview with the
Archivist, of which a tape recording was made for the files of the Enoch
Pratt Free Library. The recording was broadcast, April 18, 1959,
over Station WITH-FM, on the program "Voices of Maryland."
TEACHING AND LEARNING
In fiscal year 1959, the Archivist lectured to two classes of The
American University. On May 26, 1959, the winter class in Archival
