ARCHIVIST OF THE HALL OF RECORDS 15

I am pleased to report that the regular term class in Archival Adminis-
tration visited the Hall of Records again this year. We are gratified that our
building and our work are considered worthy of such repeated visits.

Among our many other visitors, some of whom come to work and others
to inspect, a few ought to be named to give you some idea of the goings and
comings in our outwardly quiet building: Professor J. R. Pole, a Common-
wealth Fellow now teaching at the University of London, who is interested
in the period of democratization; John M. Hemphill, II and Clement Samford
of Colonial Williamsburg, Incorporated, studying colonial binding and tool-
ing; H. P. Caemrnerer, Secretary of the National Commission of Fine Arts;
Louise H. Clickner, Librarian of the United States Bureau of the Census;
Mrs. Ernest L. Geeslin, Administrative Assistant to the Archivist of the
United States; Mr. Erwin C. Zepp, Director of the Ohio State Archaeological
and Historical Society and Dr. James H. Rodabaugh, Assistant Director, who
studied our records management plans; Dr. Oliver W. Holmes of the National
Archives; Dr. Etienne Sabbe, Conservateur des Archives of Antwerp, who
subsequently wrote an article on American archival practices.

Also: Dr. R. V. Truitt, Director of the Department of Research and
Education, who brought a group of Calvert Countians, including the Presi-
dent of the Board of County Commissioners, to inspect our plant; W. Giles
Parker, Assistant Attorney General of Maryland; Professor Don L. Bowen,
Director of the Bureau of Governmental Research at the University of Mary-
land; Eloise N. Pickrell, Librarian, St. Mary's County Memorial Library;
Frederick Tilp, Architect of the new Charles County Courthouse; Charles
E. Fen wick, President, St. Mary's County Historical Society; Dr. Herbert E.
Angel, Director, Records Management Division, National Archives and
Records Service; Irving Zitmore, Vice President, Records Engineering, In-
corporated; Evelyn M. Reynolds, Public Records Examiner of Virginia;
Allen Kraft of the staff of the United States Senate Finance Committee;
Dr. Wayne C. Grover, Archivist of the United States; and Federico Shenkel
of the Archives of the Philippine Republic.
