APPENDIX B
PRINTERS AND BOOKSELLERS OF
MARYLAND IMPRINTS, 1801-1810
The following table is designed not as a
directory of the book trade of Maryland (which
would duplicate Rollo G. Silver's currently
appearing work on the Baltimore book trade),
but simply as an index of printers and book-
sellers mentioned in the present volume,
whether inside or outside of Maryland. All
those mentioned worked in Baltimore unless
otherwise stated. For items connected with
each, see Index.
For birth and death dates, length of occu-
pation in Maryland and elsewhere, and other
information additional to that contained in
the imprints themselves, I have drawn upon
the following sources: Brigham, Minick, Brown,
Silver, McKay, preliminary work on Baltimore
directories done by Mr. Silver, and the print-
ers' file of the American Antiquarian Society.
Andrews, Ebenezer Turrell, 1779?-l827, bookseller (Bos-
ton)
1801-03. Thomas, Andrews & Butler.
Backus, Eleazer Fitch, 1770-1859, publisher, bookseller
(Albany), 1803-10.
Barnes, Samuel, 1786?-1858, bookseller, publisher,
1807-10.
1809-10. Owned circulating library, sold Oct. 1810 to
S. C. Leakin.
Barnhill, —— printer.
1801. M'Crea and Barnhill.
