Alexander C. Hanson gives the text in full of "An Act for the support of public credit, the relief of public debtors, and
the better regulation of finance" which he proposed to the General Assembly as a solution to the problem of the public
debt. There is a discussion of the possible objections that this measure might meet. See numbers, 314 and 317.

Jefferson recommended that the decimal system be used in the coinage system and that the basic unit be one dollar,
similar to the Spanish dollar. The smallest unit should be 1/100 of a dollar. He shows the disadvantages of the contemporary
monetary system, This item is sometimes found appended to his Notes on the Stoic of Virginia (1782). See H. B. Tompkins,
