Said bill was recommitted to the Committee on.
Chesapeake Bay and its Tributaries.
House bill entitled an Act to incorporate the town
of Lonaconing, in Allegany county.
Mr Young submitted the following proposed
amendment:
AMENDMENT PROPOSED.
Strike out section 16 and insert the following in lieu.
thereof:
Sec. 16. And be it enacted, That they may from
time to time cause an assessment to be made of all
the property, real and personal, in the town, by three
persons appointed by them, and may levy a tax
thereon for general purposes not exceeding in any
one year more than forty cents, nor less than twenty-
five cents, and before the tax rate shall be increased
beyond the sum of twenty-five cents on each one hun-
dred dollars of assessable property, the question of
the increase and the amount thereof shall be sub-
mitted to he voters of said town, who may at a gen-
eral corporation or at a special election to be held
after ten days' notice, change the maximum rate of
taxation, at no time, however, to exceed forty cents-
on each one hundred dollars of assessable property.
Which was adopted.
Said bill, as amended, was then read a second time,
and ordered to be engrossed for a third reading.
House bill entitled an act to change the name of the
Loan and Security Company of Anne Arundel county,
and to declare and enlarge the powers of such cor-
poration.
House bill entitled an Act to enable the Mayor and
City Council of Baltimore to appropriate a sum of
money annually for the relief of the Simmons Home
for Friendless Children of Baltimore county.
