            INDEX TO THE LAWS.

—The elections directed to be held on the first Monday
day in October 1806, and in every second year thereafter,
at the places therein prescribed,
    Mode of electing Senators of the United States,
    Members of Congress exempted from militia duty,
    Coins established by acts of Congress recognized,

    Of Harford county—money to be levied for his support,

    Of Charles county—same,

    Of Anne-Arundel county—same,

    Incorporated, &c. at Williamsport, in Washington
county,
—The charter continued, and extended to the 1st of
January 1835, &c. provided that the said bank is not
released from the terms and conditions prescribed by
the act of 1813, ch. 122,

    Turnpike Company, incorporated,

    Of lotteries authorised,

    To raise insurrection or rebellion, punishment for,
    See Crimes, &c.

    Their duty prescribed, as to attachments against witnesses,
and executions for fines thereon,
    Empowered to serve executions issued by a justice of
the peace, on judgments for small debts,
—To be served as by sheriffs, and with the same fees,
—But bond to be first given to the state, with sufficient
security to be approved by the levy court, in
the penalty of 800 dollars, on a copy of which an action
may be maintained,
    Constables empowered to serve and return writs of
scire facias issued by a justice of the peace, as in the
case of original warrants, with the same fees, and under
the same penalties,
—To deliver persons committed by a justice on a ca.
sa at the county gaol, to the sheriff or gaoler,
    Information to be given by constables of every violation
of this act, (respecting free negroes, &c.)
    Constables prohibited from purchasing any debt due
from a person residing in his hundred, unless assigned
for a bona fide debt before due,
    Constables may be fined by the justice on neglect to
make returns of executions under the act of 1801, ch.
62,
—The fine to be levied by execution,
—A future day to be fixed, (not exceeding 14 days,)
and on failure, judgment may be entered against
them, and their securities, for debt and costs,
—Judgment may be entered against them after proof
of a demand, on failing to produce the defendant taken
on a ca. sa,
—Execution thereon to be directed to the sheriff or
a constable,
    Constables satisfying the plaintiff, to have the same
remedy against the defendant,
    Duty prescribed as to persons retailing spirituous liquors
without license,
—Penalty for neglect,
    Constables empowered, on warrant, to take up free
negroes, &c. carrying guns or other offensive weapons,
unless they have certificates of being orderly,
